Models & Frameworks

Thought leadership

@Applause Consultancy

Thinking. Doing. Being.

Models and frameworks are created to make sense of ideas. They are applied to practical situations. They help develop thought leadership and professional practice.

Thinking something through using a model or framework involves asking questions, reflecting on what works, and learning by doing.

As visual tools, models and frameworks support discussion and collaboration. Their use helps individuals, teams, functions, and organisations be more efficient and effective.

Books. Papers. Articles.

Models and frameworks appear in the published work of Heather Yaxley PhD (Applause Consultancy) and Sarah Bowman PhD (Northumbria University). Here we spotlight three of their most recent areas of research.

 3S framework & collaborative ‘Café Delphi’ method

The 3S framework develops a research paradigm based on three themes to inform an original collaborative ‘Café Delphi’ method. This uses an Integrated Research Workplan, a sense-making model, and a reflexive technique of gathering and ungathering critical appraisal.

Typology of leadership knowlege & professional development

Explores fluidity of movement in the work landscape covering professions, careers, competencies/skills, knowledge, and leadership. Drawing on an ecosophy (‘wise way’ of being), a mandorla model contrasts masculine and feminine leadership. A re-imagining of leadership knowledge and professional development connects a typology of operations, professional accountability and society, with a set of five sensibilities: growth, goodness, sustainability, wellbeing, and humility.

Public Affairs Management: A Guide to Professional Practice

Includes a set of 15 problem-solving models and a framework of 15 reflexive practice methods. These support a new approach to public affairs (PA) encompassing the political arena, policy landscape, principles and practice of advocacy and PA,  and development of metamodern professionals.
